Kitty Hawk-Cloud Bustin at Jack Brooks Park

In 1997 Steve Takacs, Ed Hubbard and Mike Bartholomy flying at Kitty Hawk field (Jack Brooks Park) had a dream.  Kitty Hawk at the time was a field of bumpy, uncut grass. Soon there after many trips with personal mowers, bags of concrete for patching the road and a lot of fun flying R/C aircraft, these fellas started what today is the “Texas Cloud Busters” Radio Controlled R/C club.  Initially the voted club name was the “Kitty Hawkers.”  Steve, Ed, Mike and soon to join Lou Bello continued to pursue the dream of building a 1st class flying site for members to enjoy.

Shortly after these diligent fellas worked to hold many meetings with the Galveston County Parks and Senior Services board to inspire the hobby and improvements many enjoy today as an Incorporated, AMA insured, well maintained site at Kitty Hawk Field. Much time, work and effort were put into presentations to the Galveston Co. Commissioners Court and those within the parks board.

Today, nearing 2010 we are best known at the “Texas Cloud Busters” at Kitty Hawk Field. We sport new gated field fencing, shed, pavilion, pilots flying pads, starting stations, safety fences, patio, picnic tables and more  a top of the elevated run way at Kitty Hawk Field.  All of these great additions to our site came with a price.  We are expected to insure, maintain and secure all at Kitty Hawk Field per agreement with Galveston County Parks and Senior Services.

Today we are a modest non-profit club with 15-25 members that pay dues to support field improvements and maintenance of field and equipment.

After many years of dedication and service Steve Takacs has stepped down to the Vice Presidents Role and is very happy to introduce Mr. Larry Currie as the new club president. Larry is very dedicated and truly enjoys the R/C hobby!

We inspire visitors to join us in the continued membership, great friendships and great fun the Radio Controlled Hobby has to offer.  Hope to see you at Kitty Hawk Field, Jack Brooks Park..
